SUSPECTED FAKE LAWYER ARRESTED IN KITENGELA OVER SH82,000 FRAUD
A 36-year-old woman suspected of posing as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya has been arrested in Kitengela over an alleged Sh82,000 fraud. The suspect, Maureen Auma Andary, was arrested at Chuna Mall, Kitengela, by detectives from Kitengela Police Station following intelligence that she was allegedly masquerading as a qualified advocate and conducting fraudulent transactions. Investigators say she had allegedly claimed to work with Wafula & Co. Advocates, Kitengela. According to preliminary investigations, the case was reported on September 11, 2026, after concerns were raised over her activities. Detectives allege that Andary obtained Sh82,000 from a client after falsely claiming that she would file applications in connection with a matter pending before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi. She remains in custody as detectives investigate whether other members of the public may have fallen victim to the alleged scheme. The DCI has urged members of the public to verify the credentials and professional affiliations of people offering legal or other professional services before handing over money or personal documents.
