SOMALI NATIONAL FINED KSH 370,000 OVER FRAUDULENT ACQUISITION OF KENYAN PASSPORT
A Somali national has been fined KSh 370,000 by the JKIA Law Courts after admitting to unlawfully staying in Kenya and fraudulently obtaining Kenyan identity and passport documents.
Mohamud Mohammed Roble was arrested following investigations by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations, after the case was taken over from immigration officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Investigations established that Roble had fraudulently acquired Kenyan registration documents before using false declarations to obtain a Kenyan passport.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to three charges, including unlawful presence in Kenya, making false declarations to obtain a passport, and knowingly presenting an identity card containing false information with intent to deceive.
The court imposed fines of KSh 150,000 for unlawful presence, KSh 150,000 for making a false declaration and KSh 70,000 for presenting an identity card containing false entries.
The court further ordered that Roble be repatriated to Somalia upon payment of the fines.
His fraudulently acquired Kenyan passport was also ordered surrendered to the Director General of Immigration Services for destruction.
The DCI says it remains committed to protecting the integrity of Kenya's identity and travel documents through investigations and prosecution of individuals involved in fraudulent documentation.
