ONE ARRESTED AS POLICE INTERCEPT VEHICLE FERRYING 282KG OF SUSPECTED CANNABIS IN KISUMU
Police in Kisumu County have arrested one suspect and seized 282.55 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa after intercepting a vehicle believed to have been ferrying the illicit consignment.
The intelligence-led operation, conducted yesterday, turned dramatic after the vehicle’s driver allegedly ignored police orders to stop and attempted to speed away.
Officers were forced to take action, deflating one of the vehicle’s tyres before eventually bringing it to a halt. The driver, however, managed to escape during the ensuing commotion, leaving behind a passenger who was apprehended by the officers.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the suspected cannabis, which had been packed in several sacks and concealed inside the vehicle. The substantial haul is believed to have been destined for an unknown location, although police have not yet disclosed where it was being transported.
The arrested suspect, together with the recovered exhibit and vehicle, has been placed in police custody as detectives intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the driver who escaped from the scene.
The latest seizure comes amid continued efforts by the National Police Service to disrupt the movement and supply of illicit drugs across the country, with officers pursuing suspects involved at different stages of the supply chain.
Police are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police camp, post or station.
