OBURU OGINGA DISMISSES DEATH REPORTS AS ‘MALICIOUS PROPAGANDA’
ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he had died, describing the reports as “malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda.”
In a statement issued by his secretariat on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Oburu’s office assured Kenyans, ODM supporters and residents of Siaya that the veteran politician was alive, safe and in good spirits. The statement specifically referenced social media claims attributed to blogger Maverick Aoko.
According to the secretariat, Oburu was preparing his official speech for the planned handover ceremony of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi when the reports began circulating.
The office acknowledged that Oburu is currently under doctors’ instructions to rest and limit heavy physical engagements, but said he remained mentally alert and involved in key party and national matters. It also urged the public and media to disregard unverified reports and rely on official communication channels.
The secretariat further said it was engaging the ODM leadership over the matter and considering legal action against those responsible for what it described as cyberbullying and deliberate misinformation.
The development came after Aoko posted on social media claiming that Oburu had died. The claim was subsequently rejected by Oburu’s office and his sister Hon. Ruth Odinga while Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also said she had visited the ODM leader and found him in good spirits.
