Nelson Ambai arrested over alleged murder of Feruz Hussein
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced the arrest of Nelson Ambai, who is accused of killing Feruz Hussein and subsequently threatening members of her family.
Sonko said he took up the family’s case after they were referred to his office by members of the public two days ago. According to Sonko, the family arrived at his office frightened and in tears, prompting him to intervene, launch a manhunt for the suspect and offer a reward for information leading to his arrest.
“Today, I am happy to announce that Nelson has been arrested,” Sonko said.
Ambai is currently being held at Kasarani Police Station and is expected to appear before the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
Sonko alleged that after killing Feruz, Ambai recorded her body and sent the video to her mother, Aisha, and her sister, Shadia. He further alleged that the suspect threatened to kill Shadia and her younger brother, Malik.
Sonko also claimed that Ambai had previously subjected several members of Feruz’s family, including her mother, sister and brother, to physical assault.
The former governor thanked DCI Director Mohamed Amin, DCI Kasarani officers and members of the public from Kasarani, Dandora and Naivasha for their cooperation in helping secure the arrest.
The arrest has brought renewed hope to Feruz’s family, with Sonko insisting that poverty should never prevent victims and their families from accessing justice.
The allegations against Ambai will now be subject to due process as he appears before the court.
