Eastleigh Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises as Two More Bodies Recovered

The death toll from the Eastleigh building collapse has risen following the recovery of two more bodies from the rubble on the 13th day of rescue operations.

According to Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, the victims were retrieved early Thursday morning from the collapsed building along 9th Street, Eastleigh, with rescuers continuing efforts to recover another body. If successful, the death toll will rise to five.

In a statement, Hassan expressed condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, describing the incident as heartbreaking for the affected families, Eastleigh residents and the wider Kamukunji community.

The MP also reassured families still waiting for news of their missing relatives that the search operation would continue until everyone reported missing had been accounted for.

He commended rescue teams for working day and night under dangerous conditions for nearly two weeks, while also acknowledging the contributions of volunteers, health workers, security personnel and local residents.

Hassan further called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse once rescue operations are concluded, insisting that accountability must be established to prevent similar tragedies in Nairobi.

The rescue operation, now in its 13th day, continues as families await answers and the recovery of their missing loved ones.
