DRIVER ARRESTED AS POLICE RECOVER 20KG OF CANNABIS IN BUSIA Police in Busia County have arrested a 39-year-old public service vehicle driver after recovering 20 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa during an operation along the Busia–Kisumu Road. The operation followed a tip-off that prompted officers from Bumala Police Station to intercept a PSV, registration number KCP 022H. A search of the vehicle’s boot led to the recovery of a green sack and a black bag containing the suspected narcotic drugs. Further investigations by detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB), Busia, established that the consignment was not passenger luggage and was allegedly being transported as part of a trafficking operation. The driver, Stephen Otieno Jumbo, alias Barry, was subsequently arrested. Detectives also established that he was allegedly acting jointly with the vehicle’s conductor, Patrick Omondi, who fled the scene and remains at large. Jumbo remains in police custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment, while the recovered narcotics have been preserved as exhibits. Detectives have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the conductor.
