Police in Dandora, Nairobi, have arrested a 32-year-old woman after she was allegedly caught by neighbours subjecting her 8-year-old daughter to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) using a surgical blade.
The incident reportedly occurred in Dandora Phase 2, where neighbours raised the alarm and confronted the woman before police and the Sub-County Children Officer arrived.
The traumatised girl was rescued and taken to Dandora Phase 3 Health Centre for treatment before being discharged in stable condition.
She has since been placed in a safe home as her mother remains in custody at Dandora Police Station.
The suspect is expected to face charges under the Prohibition of FGM Act, 2011, and the Children Act.
