62-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED OVER SUSPECTED CHILD TRAFFICKING IN KAJIADO

Police in Kajiado County have arrested a 62-year-old man over suspected child trafficking and defilement following an intelligence-led operation at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya.

The suspect, identified as Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, was arrested in a bedsitter where officers reportedly found him with four children aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months.

The discovery prompted further investigations into the circumstances under which the children came to be in his custody. A subsequent search of a house associated with the suspect in Mashuuru Township uncovered numerous items, including bags of children's clothing ranging from newborn to teenage sizes, baby shawls, blankets, baby shoes and a baby carrier.

Detectives also recovered adult male clothing, six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows and assorted foodstuffs. The items are being examined as investigators seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

The suspect remains in police custody as detectives pursue investigations into the suspected offences. Meanwhile, the four children have been placed under appropriate care and protection and are expected to undergo medical examinations.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to combat crimes targeting children and other vulnerable members of society.
